99KM Coffee Magic by Tarun

The humongous sign board makes this place quite hard to miss. Started by an ex servicemen to empower women, '99 km Coffee Magic ' never fails to stop motorists and turn heads.

We were going to Chennai to completmy brother's college admission procedures. We travelled by car which was a 8-10 hour drive depending on traffic. Sadly, the counselling got cancelled due to Cyclone Nivar. We happened to make a stop at this delightful shop on our return back to Coimbatore.

There are multiple stalls selling antique items (toys, decorative articles etc). The store also provides RO filtered water and traditional herbal drinks at no cost.

Ayurvedic reusable masks are available for sale.

The focus is on our ethnicity and tradition ; From the way water is stored in mud pots and food is served on banana leaves to the traditional Indian toys, medicinal drinks and utensils displayed. All this instils a sense of pride and nostalgia.

To not ape the west, but to fuse the best of both the worlds, is the key to our progress.

On account of the COVID-19 health situation, the popularity of a herbal immunity boosting drink is on the rise, called ' Kabasura Kudineer '. Owing to the intense bitterness, I personally despise it. My mom is very keen that I have a glass every day. Fresh packets of this powder are also sold there.

The food is delicious. They serve freshly prepared dosas, uthapams, chutney and a lot more. The Elanner Payasam ( Tender coconut based drink ) served in a mud pot is a must try.

Like common sense, clean toilets are a rarity on the road.  However, the toilets here are well maintained and clean. Do not bother looking for tissues, as there is a 'no tissue use' policy.

They have won a Guinness World record for saving and planting trees, quite an achievement for a roadside shop to take part in such a feat.

If you are a reader, they also sell books here. They provide a library-like service where you can read the books and after you're done, keep it back and continue on your journey.

All stalls found here only provide biodegradable bags like those made from cotton and jute.

And now, the most important part, why is this place called "99km Coffee Stop"? This is because it is situated exactly 99km away from Chennai .

If you are not a fan of restaurant food. They allow you to bring your own food in, along with providing charging ports for your devices.

Do checkout this place if your making the drive to Chennai!
