Road Trip Around Oman by Tarun

Image
Our road trip began on 19.3.2021. It was a 7 day drive around Oman covering the districts of Muscat, Dhofar, Al Wusta, Ad Dhakiliya, and Ash Sharqiya. We were to drive to Salalah on the 1st day and while returning along the coastal road, making stops at Duqm and Masirah Island. Day 1 Our journey began at 7 am from Muscat. After stopping at Adam for breakfast, we continued our journey towards Haima. The road was barren and the trucks were our only companions. Once we reached Haima, we refueled our car and ate some ice cream! We reached Thumrait (a town close to Salalah) at around dusk. On reaching Salalah we checked into the Crowne Plaza Resort. Spending my entire day in the car had made me quite restless, and I hit the pool without any further adieu. We had dinner at the Ocean Blue restaurant on the hotel premises.    Salalah is famous for its coconuts. A large number of coconut stalls can be found where fresh bananas and oranges are also sold! Day 2 -  West Salalah Today...

USMLE Step 1 Exam Day - Survival Kit by Keerthika

Image
My existence revolved around  UWorld , First Aid,  Anki  and Sketchy. Suffering from burnout - mentally, physically and emotionally,  had  left m e exhausted and in a state of de spair. The day of ultimate revelation had arrived; here I was, staring at the computer screen in the  prometric  center.  Akin to rubbing salt on the wound, questions of self doubt arose ‘Have I made the right choice to give the exam in third year or should I have given it after the house  surgency ?’ or ‘should I  have  postponed the exam?’  H ave trust in y ourself and your preparation. This day  is the final dash to the finish line, this is the pinnacle and nothing will ruin it. A WEEK BEFORE THE EXAM : For the night owls out there, the first thing to do is to correct your diurnal rhythm, lest you will be sleeping with your eyes open on exam day.  Confirm your appointment with the  prometric  centre. Brush up the topics that you’...

The New Royal Bakery of Kotagiri by Vishwajit

Image
The New Royal Bakery The sweet scent of bakery and confectionary has been infused into their blood over many generations. It’s been 80 years since the ovens of this bakery have been burning hot and strong. The bakers here have over 20 years of experience up their sleeves.  Our trip to the Nilgiri mountains was dotted with a special surprise. A journey into the heart, of one of the many famous Variki Houses.Their artisans make the much sought after, ‘Ooty Variki’.    It’s famous for its unique texture and flavour. Crunchy, sweet, a bit salty and flaky, making it a perfect teatime snack.   The furnace is lit the previous day, fuelled by burning wood procured from the surrounding forests.   As the day progresses, the intensity of heat generated reduces. Hence the items to be prepared are sequenced accordingly, starting with the breads and concluding with the biscuits. The prized Variki is prepared around noon. When the temperature is just right. It has to be baked ...

Can a bit of Ignorance, Give you a bit more of Happiness?

Image
My yellow, furry, slightly smelly friend. says hello. The bumpiness of one camel ride was enough to bump me into pondering over life's pressing philosophical questions. The Aristotle, cruising the desert while cruising through the cosmos. How can you be in melancholy, if you don't think?  How can you be worried, if you don't know?  How can you feel left out, if you don't know about what the others are up to?  The grass is greener on the other side, only if you look at the other side . This sounds fairly extreme, but what I'm trying to expound here is that - Put a filter in life. See everything, but observe what you need. Hear everything, but listen to what you need. It's in the race for happiness. that we run across so much unhappiness. But we need to start realizing that happiness isn't a race, it's your own journey.  Happiness is innate, no one has ever taken it from you, to give it to you.  One fine sunny afternoon in the desert, we noticed a solita...

Study Resources for NEET - Chemistry

Image
The Chemistry section in NEET 2020 was a honest let down in terms of all the preparation that had been done. After braving the storms of the S,P,D and F block of the periodic table, preventing my head from exploding due to the heat of thermodynamics, getting myself in equilibrium by organically making this cacophony come together as a symphony. Basically all that came, was from the NCERT. I had chanted so much chemistry over the past 2 years that, I could have woken up Mendeleev from his grave. Grade 11 :  Test Series by Allen Coaching Institute (Nurture 2 year test series) Chemistry NCERT MTG Chemistry MCQs The MTG chemistry MCQs gives a good idea about the previous year questions. But questions from very old papers are irrelevant due to syllabus changes. Organic chemistry questions particularly from the test series were very challenging. The questions were mainly out of the NCERT and the my basic concepts were not clear. The covid-19 lockdown period gave me enough time to ...
